Curly Cuts

Give Your Curls New Life

Not all haircuts are equal. Curly hair needs a curly haircut.

If you love your curls—but absolutely dread getting a haircut—it’s probably because you haven’t tried a curly cut yet. A curly cut is a special process that shapes your hair with its natural silhouette and avoids any unevenness in your hair pattern.

Every haircut we do at Studio 312 Salon in Oviedo is customized to our clients and none more so than our curly cuts. Based on how your hair naturally curls and lays, we’ll cut your hair dry first and go one curl at a time to enhance your volume and the curls themselves.

At Studio 312 Salon, you can rest assured your stylist is well-trained in working with curly hair and we even have a Rezo Certified Curl Specialist on staff.

Everyone with curly hair has experienced the horror of having their hair cut wet and then it’s uneven or too short once you get home. Or worse, the dreaded “triangle head.”

There’s no fear of that with a curly cut.

With a curly cut, we only take the length you want and you won’t have to worry about flat hair on top that only gets wider at the bottom. Curly cuts distribute your volume evenly. Plus, it reduces weight at the bottom of your hair which reduces frizz!

Curly cuts last anywhere from 12 weeks to six months, depending on if you’re looking to maintain your shape or looking to grow your locks. Prices start at $75.

Types of Curly Cuts

Curly cuts are completely customized to your unique curl type and styling preferences.

There are a number of different curly cut techniques our stylists use to give you the exact look you’re going for.

Carve & Slice

With the carve & slice, the goal is to enhance your curl definition and reduce bulk. This takes the weight out of your hair and gives you more volume and improves the shape of your curls.

We’ll cut your curl groupings (clumps of curls that naturally form together) in a C-shape to create a natural pathway for your curls. Then, we’ll take vertical sections of your hair and thin them out slightly to reduce bulk and give your curls room to breathe.

One Curl At A Time

We start with dry hair so we can see how your curls lay naturally and trim each curl individually. This is the best way to enhance your hair’s natural pattern and shape.

The most important thing when cutting curly hair is to avoid over-cutting and the curl-by-curl method makes sure to do that. It also adds more bounce to your curls and works with your unique curl pattern rather than against it.

Stretching

Not so much a cut as curly hair styling. Looking for more elongated curls? Then after your curly cut, your hair needs a bit of stretching to give you the look you want.

If you’ve got particularly tight curls or coils, your hair might appear shorter than you’d like. After your cut, our stylists will use various twisting and braiding techniques to help reduce shrinkage and stretch out your curls, making your hair appear longer.

Wetting It Down

If you come in for a curly cut but you’ve had your hair in a tight bun all morning, your stylist can’t see your natural curl pattern enough to cut your hair dry.

Wetting it will help your stylist manage and detangle your hair, and it provides a uniform stretch to your curls. This curly cut method often involves layering or slide cutting adapted for your texture while still avoiding over-cutting.
